It’s a good time to reset:

Helping employees get more value from their health value

As summer winds down and employees settle into new routines, many organizations have an opportunity to reconnect their workforce with the benefits that support health and well-being. Between back-to-school schedules, changing family responsibilities, and the return to more structured work routines, employees are often refocusing on getting back in the swing of things.

For employers, this seasonal reset is an opportunity to increase awareness of the wellness programs, chronic condition support, and other health resources that may already be included with their health plan — but often go underutilized.

Health benefits deliver more than coverage

The value of a health plan extends beyond paying claims. It also includes the programs, tools, and support that help employees stay healthy, prevent illness, and better manage ongoing health conditions.

Many health plans include wellness programs that encourage healthier habits through preventive care, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and health education. Others offer chronic condition support through health coaching, care management, and educational resources for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and high blood pressure.

Yet these resources can only make an impact if employees know they exist. By regularly highlighting available programs — not just during open enrollment, but throughout the year — employers can encourage employees to take a more proactive approach to their health.

Turning awareness into engagement

Increasing the value employees receive from their benefits doesn’t always require introducing new programs. Often, it starts by helping employees better understand and use the support that’s already available.

For Florida Blue members, wellness resources available through a local Florida Blue Center can help reinforce that support. Designed to complement traditional medical care, the Centers offer wellness classes, health education, select health screenings, and opportunities to connect with community specialists who can help identify local resources that support overall well-being. These member-focused services provide another way to stay engaged with health between doctor visits.

Clear, consistent reminders about these resources throughout the year can help employees make better use of the benefits available to them.

A small shift can deliver lasting value

Organizations invest significantly in employee health benefits because they recognize that a healthy workforce contributes to a stronger organization. Helping employees get more value from that investment doesn’t always mean expanding benefits — it often means increasing awareness and engagement with the resources already available.

As employees settle into new routines this fall, employers have a natural opportunity to remind their workforce that their health plan is more than an ID card. It’s a year- round source of wellness programs, chronic condition support, education, and guidance designed to help employees live healthier lives.

When employees understand and use these resources, everyone benefits. Employees gain greater support in managing their health, while employers reinforce the value of their benefits investment and contribute to a healthier, more engaged workforce.
